Houston! We have a probllama!

It’s inevitable isn’t it. For those who know me have come to accept I’m far from straightforward. I aspire to be ‘beige’; by that I mean I’d love to have several days of simpleness, no incidents, just plain straightforward days.

So, off we went on a wee highland adventure with friends as part of my big 50 celebrations. I’d invited myself 3 years earlier and the planning has kept us entertained every time we met up. Planning is a strong word, winging it is more realistic. Anyway the trip arrived, I’d packed in a thoughtful, organised fashion and even had a picnic prepped for the journey.

What a weekend we had, with food, fun and friendship. They are true friends, we even went for a joggle (a jog/wobble like motion for those of us that aren’t yet fit!) to keep up my triathlon training - that’ll be another Lynnecident no doubt. We had a blast.

After brunch on Sunday morning, I just needed to take the dogs out for a leg stretch before the journey home. Next door to the house was some woods with way marked circular routes. Every day I’d taken the dogs, no problem each time. So, as we packed up, my one job was to get the dogs out for a ‘quick pee’.

Well, off I went, until eventually the trees and bushes I’d admired each morning were different, in strange places with unrecognisable paths. It dawned on me I was lost. And of course I had left my phone back at the house. Try as I might, I couldn’t navigate my way back. Eventually I heard the train, as it got closer I realised we had a probllama.

The train, which should have been in front of me, was disappearing behind me. ‘Where was I’?! I asked some lovely lady who gave me a strange look and hurried on by. Another dog walker like me appeared but she too a visitor who was sticking to the straight section of woodland so as not to get lost (great idea). Eventually I stumbled upon a taxi drivers house; she kindly navigated me to the Co-Op, then I was ok (ish).

Some 90 mins after I set off on the 5 minute walk, soaked to the skin with 3 dripping dogs, I returned. My lovely friends looked at me, laughed and went off for my hubby and son who were by now out searching. On the plus side, I’d avoided the big pack up and house clean. I found bits of Aviemore I didn't know existed and we all agreed in the time I’d been gone it was likely I’d been via Cairngorm 🗻😂. I think Nicky is going to add a tracker to my phone for next time I’m geographically challenged. When I first moved to Beirhope I’d ring her, describing rural locations in a bid to find out where I was 😂

No adventure is complete without a Lynnecident of some kind. It’s almost expected. I thought the big 50 would see a coming of age, perhaps achieve that straightforward simple life. Nope!

Take some comfort in knowing at least here at Beirhope I know every milimeter of ground and can find home with my eyes closed! Your adventure with us will be far from beige that’s for sure; but we always know how to get back to base!
